    The Spanish Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy reports that umbilical cord blood from Spanish donors has allowed, to date, to save the lives of 1,934 patients who needed a blood stem cell transplant.

    Criterion of the Spanish Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy on the autologous use of umbilical cord blood: "Today the probability that an autologous cord blood unit is used for transplantation is very low and its use has been limited to pathologies in Pediatrics, mainly in acquired medullary aplasia, high-risk solid tumors (neuroblastomas, Ewing's sarcoma, medulloblastoma and germinal tumors) and some non-Hodgkin's lymphomas in the second remission. There is currently no clear evidence that these cells can be used for Regenerative medicine or to treat other diseases in the future. There are several initial clinical trials to test autologous cell efficacy for some indications. However, it is currently impossible to predict research results that may affect the potential future use of these cells "
